On 7 July 2026, Google launched Platform Properties inside Google Search Console, a new property type that lets you connect Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube accounts directly to GSC and see how each post performs across Google Search and Discover. The global rollout completed on 29 July 2026. Before this, clicks from Google to social posts were invisible: social analytics showed engagement after discovery, but never the search queries that drove the traffic. Platform Properties closes that gap for any account holder, regardless of follower count or whether they own a website.

What Are GSC Platform Properties?

A Platform Property sits inside GSC alongside the domain and URL-prefix properties you already know. Instead of verifying a website, you verify a social or video account, and GSC begins reporting on how that account’s posts perform across Google Search, Discover, and News, covering clicks, impressions, average position, and search queries at the individual post level.

Two points of confusion are common. First, Platform Properties are a private analytics tool only: connecting an Instagram account to GSC creates no public Google profile and has no bearing on how posts rank. Second, they are separate from Google Search Profiles, which are public creator pages available only to accounts with at least 100,000 followers on X, Instagram, or YouTube, or 300,000 on TikTok. Platform Properties carry no follower threshold at all. At launch, Google supports four platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Facebook and LinkedIn are not yet included.

Why Connect Social Profiles to Google Search Console?

A TikTok video ranking on the first page of Google results for a competitive query could generate thousands of impressions weekly while your analytics report nothing, because clicks from Google to social posts were entirely invisible before Platform Properties. The Performance report now surfaces the exact queries and clicks behind that traffic, distinguishing what search intent drove people to a post from how they engaged with it after arriving. Those are different signals, and treating them as equivalent has always produced blind spots in content planning.

For brands running entirely on social without a website, this is the first time Google visibility has been measurable at all. Queries surfacing TikTok or Instagram content also reveal audience intent that can be tested across a website’s content calendar and paid campaigns, which makes Platform Properties useful well beyond the social team alone.

How to Connect Social Profiles to Google Search Console: Step-by-Step

The process is consistent across all four platforms. Open Google Search Console, click the property selector dropdown in the top-left corner, select Add Property, choose a platform, and follow the on-screen authorisation steps. Each platform is added as its own separate property. Data accumulates from the date of connection only, with no historical data available, and verification takes up to 48 hours before anything appears in the Performance report.

How to Add Instagram to Google Search Console

Sign into GSC, open the property selector, and click Add Property. Select Instagram from the platform list, sign in with either the Instagram account or the Facebook account managing it, and approve the connection. Once verified, GSC reports on eligible posts, Reels, and Stories appearing in Google Search: a Story appearing in a result counts as an impression, and a click through counts as a GSC click.

How to Add TikTok to Google Search Console

Follow the same Add Property flow, select TikTok, sign in with TikTok credentials, and authorise the connection. TikTok content surfaces in Google Search more than most brands expect, particularly for how-to and trending queries, where TikTok videos compete directly with traditional web results. The queries this property surfaces tend to reveal audience intent that platform-native analytics would never report.

How to Add X (Twitter) to Google Search Console

Select X from the platform list, sign in, and authorise. GSC then reports on X posts, profiles, and threads surfacing in Google Search. X content tends to appear for breaking news, trending topics, and brand mentions, which makes this property particularly useful for monitoring how often Google surfaces branded or competitive content from X.

How to Add YouTube to Google Search Console

YouTube has one key difference from the other three platforms: you can only connect a YouTube account associated with the Google account you are currently logged into. If someone else owns the channel, they must add you as a user from their own GSC account. For channels you do own, select Add Property, choose YouTube, and the linked channel populates automatically. Given that YouTube is the world’s second-largest search engine, tracking how videos surface inside Google Search as well as YouTube Search gives a materially fuller picture of reach.

Managing Multiple Accounts and Sharing GSC Access

Brands with multiple YouTube channels or Instagram accounts can add each as a separate property and compare them side by side inside GSC. Sharing access with team members or agencies follows the standard GSC permissions system: once a property is verified, the owner adds users via Settings, then Users and Permissions, then Add User. Google provides three permission levels: Owner (full control, including user management), Full User (can view all data and take most actions), and Restricted User (view rights only). For agencies, Full User access is the appropriate level, because it avoids sharing social media login credentials directly while still providing the access needed to report on performance.

What Data Does GSC Give You for Social Media Accounts?

The Platform Properties Performance report mirrors the standard GSC Performance report for websites. Core dimensions include Clicks (users clicking through to a post from Google), Impressions (how often content appeared in a Google result), Average Position (where content typically ranks), and Search Queries (the exact terms users typed). The report can be filtered by individual post, country, device, search appearance, and date range, providing the same segmentation available for website properties.

The post-level data is where the practical value sits. Aggregate account impressions are directional at best, whereas seeing which specific posts are earning Google clicks tells you which content formats and topics to invest in next. Platform Properties also include an Insights overview that surfaces recent traffic trends and top-performing posts, useful for identifying content themes gaining traction in Google Search.

How to Use GSC Platform Properties Data to Improve Your SEO Strategy

The most immediate application is feeding the top queries surfacing your social content back into post captions, hashtags, alt text, and video titles, strengthening alignment between existing content and the searches already driving people to it. Queries that surface social content but have no corresponding page on the main website are content gaps that are comparatively easy to close, because the audience and the brand’s relevance are already confirmed by the GSC data.

For agencies, adding a Google visibility column to monthly social reports backed by real GSC data changes the nature of client conversations: it grounds social performance in search behaviour rather than engagement metrics alone. For businesses without a website, optimising profile usernames, bios, and post text around queries that already surface their social content turns Google Search into a free discovery channel without requiring a domain.

GSC Platform Properties: Common Questions and Troubleshooting

If a Platform Property is not showing data, verification takes up to 48 hours, and Google only reports when eligible content appears on a supported surface, so accounts with limited Google-facing content may see sparse data initially before volume builds. The connection has no effect on website ranking: Platform Properties are a reporting tool only, with no crossover between social property data and how Google ranks a domain.

A website is not required to use Platform Properties. Google built the feature to serve creators and brands operating entirely on social, which is why the feature carries no domain ownership requirement and no follower threshold. The distinction from Google Search Profiles is worth noting: those are public creator pages available only above the follower thresholds mentioned earlier, whereas Platform Properties are private analytics accessible to any account holder. Facebook and LinkedIn are not yet supported; no timeline for their inclusion has been confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Google add social media to Google Search Console?

Google announced Platform Properties on 7 July 2026 via its Search Central Blog. The global rollout completed on 29 July 2026.

Which social platforms can I connect to Google Search Console?

Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube are supported at launch. Facebook and LinkedIn are not yet included.

How long does it take for GSC Platform Properties data to appear?

Verification and initial data population can take up to 48 hours after authorising the connection. Accounts with limited Google-facing content may see sparse data early on, with volume increasing as more posts earn impressions.

Can I add more than one Instagram or YouTube account?

Yes. Each account is added as a separate property, so multiple accounts from the same platform can run as distinct Platform Properties inside GSC and be compared side by side.

Does my team member need their own Google Search Console account?

A Google account is required, though not an existing GSC account. For YouTube, the channel owner must add others as users from their own GSC account, since a YouTube channel can only be connected by the Google account it belongs to.

Closing Thoughts

Platform Properties makes visible something that has always existed inside Google’s systems: the search queries driving traffic to social content. With that data broken down to the individual post level, content teams can see search demand rather than inferring it from engagement signals, which changes both how social content gets planned and how its performance gets reported. For brands without a website, the visibility gain is particularly significant, because it has simply not been available before.

Getting connected takes minutes per platform, and because no historical data is ever backfilled, every week without a connected property is a week of search performance that will not appear in any future report. The accounts that are connected earliest will have the longest data series to work from when making decisions about content investment across social and SEO.
